Working in partnership with Morrison Construction and The City of Edinburgh Council, Fleming Timber Structures played an integral role in the delivery of Maybury Primary School – an inspiring new learning environment at the heart of West Edinburgh’s growing community.
The project was recognised for its excellence, winning Education Project of the Year at the 2025 Structural Timber Awards – a testament to the quality of design, collaboration, and delivery.
The school has been designed to meet the needs of a diverse and expanding population, offering high-quality teaching spaces alongside flexible learning environments, sports facilities, and outdoor play areas.
Fleming Timber Structures contributed specialist expertise in offsite timber construction to help create a modern, sustainable, and visually striking school building. We utilised Larsen truss external panels, I-Joist cassettes in both the mid-floor and roof, and large-scale CLT. We were also responsible for ensuring airtightness, achieving an impressive result of 0.229 m³/(h·m³) @ 50Pa – far surpassing the Passivhaus minimum of 0.6. In addition, we supplied and erected a steel truss in the gym hall, demonstrating our versatility beyond timber solutions.
Our precision-engineered structural elements were central to the project’s fast and efficient build, while supporting the City of Edinburgh Council’s commitment to low-carbon construction and long-term environmental performance.
As well as enhancing the building’s form and function, our work reflects a wider ambition: to create spaces that support not just education, but community connection and wellbeing. Fleming Timber Structures is proud to have contributed to the success of this flagship, award-winning project, supporting sustainable education infrastructure and the communities it serves.
